What is SpeedSafe:

SpeedSafe is an innovative stand-alone speed limiter for ATVs, UTVs, and Side by Side vehicles.  Specifically developed to restrict speed and in turn reduce the risk associated with operating these vehicles, it's primary objective is to make workplaces safer.

How does it work?

SpeedSafe has been successfully delivering ‘aversion therapy’ on ATVs, UTV’s and Side by Side vehicles in workplaces around the world since 2006.

The principle of SpeedSafe operation is to make the vehicle so ‘unpleasant’ to drive above the SET speed limit, that operators voluntarily maintain speeds below the SET speed.

When using SpeedSafe there are no restrictions to the power and performance of the vehicle until the SET speed is reached.

Beyond the SET speed the vehicle progressively runs out of power. It achieves this by imposing an engine misfire which steadily increases to ensure that the vehicle is unable to go faster than a few kph / mph above the SET limit.

SpeedSafe can also offer additional customization options which include Soft Cut Mode, Hard Cut Mode and Penalty Mode.

Soft Cut Mode

When ‘Soft Cut Mode’ is selected, at the SET speed the engine develops a slight but rapid misfire.  If the operator tries to go faster by applying more throttle, the speed limiter makes the misfire worse as speed increases.  The ‘range’ of the speed variation from slight misfire to severe misfire is selectable (0.3 mph to  5 mph in several steps) as well as the ‘rate’ of the misfire (2, 4 or 6 ‘misfires’ per second).  The misfire is so severe at the highest cut rate, the vehicle cannot exceed the maximum speed. If a very ‘firm’ limit is desired, a low speed range (0.3 mph) would be selected, if a ‘soft’ limit is desired a high speed range (5 mph) would be selected.  The ‘rate’ of the misfire also effects the ‘feel’ of the limiter, but not the operation.  2 misfires per second is very rough, 6 is smoother.

Hard Cut Mode

When ‘Hard Cut Mode’ is selected, at the SET speed the engine is cut completely until the vehicle drops below the limiting speed.

Penalty mode.  An additional feature available to owners / supervisors to assist in further modifying operator behavior.

When enabled, penalty mode allows the owner / supervisor to impose a penalty in the form of speed reduction for a set duration, if a driver continuously drives at the set speed limit or continuously attempts to exceed the set speed limit.

Setting the speed limit;

The SpeedSafe speed limiter default is 15 mph (25kph) when it is enabled, however the owner or supervisor can program any desired speed limit on the vehicle.

Benefits of using SpeedSafe speed limiters:
